to free or not to free, as in ebooks
OK I figured out how to add people LOL. Until Blogger had this option, I wasn't really interested in it, cuz it was difficult to read "friends" blogs. I find LJ and MySpace much easier (though I really loathe the ad/sound/pic crap on myspace, guess I'm not that demographic LOL).
I've been reading about TOR's new website where they offer free ebooks to download. COOL! I saved a bunch of them for later reading, though it's hard for me to sit at my computer writing all day AND then read an ebook, however, I can put one on my thumb drive and read it on my laptop (which is a dinosaur, laptop-wise, but hey, I haven't sold that first book yet! :).
Does it work? Time will tell. Neil Gaimon talks about his book sales results here. On the July 12th post, Bloggasm talks about the results here and the original blog "Did Tor's Free E-books Affect Sales?".
Personally, I think the overall average sales will go up. Many, many people can be introduced to a new author without spending a dime, then go on to read him or her as a buying reader. Well, that's what I'll do anyway. When I'm looking for books on Amazon.com, I always read an excerpt first. Maybe it's my writer-brain, but if the book is poorly written, or in a style that is too much work to read (I read for pleasure, not pain), then I want to know before I pay for anything out of my paltry disability check.
Good luck to TOR! and thanks for the freebies :)
